In 2021, the Rhode Island Branch of the Massachusetts Rhode Island & Maine Chapter was dissolved and the State of Rhode Island Committee was formed to ensure that Rhode Island appraisers have a voice in the management of the Chapter. This page will be used to keep the chapter’s Rhode Island appraisers informed about important regulatory issues affecting Rhode Island appraisers as well as events held in Rhode Island.
About the State of Rhode Island Committee
The State of Rhode Island standing committee is comprised of three (3) members that are residents of the State of Rhode Island who will be appointed by the Chapter President for staggered 3-year terms. Each year, the committee will vote one (1) of its members to be the committee chair. As a committee chair, that member is expected to attend each Board meeting in a non-voting capacity. That person would provide the Board with a report of Rhode Island issues / activities, etc.
The State of Rhode Island Committee members will serve dual roles also serving on the Chapter’s education, government relations, and candidate guidance committees.

History of the Rhode Island Chapter of the Appraisal Institute
In 1953, Rhode Island based real estate appraisers began as a chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and retired member William E. Coyle, Jr., MAI, SRA is in possession of that original Society charter. The Rhode Island Chapter of the Appraisal Institute was established on January 1, 1991 when the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers merged. The Appraisal Institute formally presented the charter in 1993 to Thomas S. Andolfo, MAI, SRA who happened to be chapter president at that time. As way of tradition, the Rhode Island Charter was then passed-on each year to the in-coming chapter president until it was retired upon the merging of the Rhode Island and Massachusetts Chapters on January 1, 2013. The 1993 charter was re-presented to Mr. Andolfo by the Rhode Island Chapter’s last president, Gregory J. Accetta, MAI, on December 12, 2012.
