Hewitt Scholarship Fund
Established in 1981, the purpose of the John D. Hewitt Memorial Scholarship Fund is to honor the memory of John D. Hewitt, MAI, SRPA (1911-1981) by promoting excellence in education.
For 2024, the Hewitt Fund Committee is comprised of seven members:

Jonathan H. Avery, MAI (term ending in 2024)
Bud Clarke, MAI (term ending in 2025)
Joseph P. Comperchio, SRA (term ending in 2024)
Alan Johnson, MAI (term ending in 2024)
Susan Kelly, SRA for a three year term (ending 2026)
The Fund is pleased to announce three scholarship opportunities for Massachusetts, Rhode Island & Maine Chapter of the Appraisal Institute Professionals and recent college graduates.
Scholarships are available as follows:
NEW SCHOLARSHIP / QE and DE Scholarship – for MARIME Chapter Professionals
Scholarships are now available to Massachusetts Rhode Island & Maine Chapter professionals in good standing for Appraisal Institute qualifying and designation education courses offered in-person by the Massachusetts Rhode Island & Maine Chapter as well as Appraisal Institute synchronous courses not offered by the Chapter with a priority given to chapter-offered courses. In announcing this new scholarship opportunity, Hewitt Scholarship Fund Chair, Robert Maloney, MAI stated “The committee recognizes the need to encourage primary and designation education for individuals belonging to the Massachusetts, Rhode Island & Maine Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and is pleased to offer a new scholarship to help those looking to begin their appraisal career as well as those looking to enhance their career with an Appraisal Institute designation”
The number of QE and DE scholarships is subject to review by the committee at any time.
Demonstration of Knowledge Requirement Scholarship – for Chapter Candidates
- $500 toward the course fee for the Appraisal Institute’s Residential Demonstration Appraisal Report 45 hour package.
- $750 towards the course fee to attend the Capstone Program.
In order to receive the scholarship:
- Applicants must be Candidate for Designation in good standing with the Massachusetts Rhode Island & Maine Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, including completion of the USPAP and Ethics requirements and be enrolled in the Candidate for Designation Program.
- MAI Candidates must have completed the required MAI courses .
- SRA Candidates must have completed the required SRA courses (less the 45-Hour Residential Demonstration Appraisal Report Alternative Course Package).
- Candidates must submit proof of attendance at the 45 hour program or Capstone program.
- Applicants must complete the Hewitt Scholarship Fund application.
